President-elect Donald Trump confirmed plans to declare a national emergency and use military resources for his mass deportation strategy. Over the weekend, he nominated Chris Wright to be energy secretary and Brendan Carr to lead the Federal Communications Commission.

Lebanon and the Iran-backed Hezbollah terrorist group have agreed to a U.S. proposal for a ceasefire with Israel. Some consider this the most serious effort yet to end the fighting, but Israel has not yet commented.

President Joe Biden pledged a $4 billion contribution to the World Bank during his final G20 summit in Brazil. Global hunger and poverty were among the key issues discussed on the first day of the summit.

Russia warned that Biden’s decision to allow Ukraine to strike targets inside Russia with U.S.-supplied longer-range missiles escalates the war. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy responded, saying, “The missiles will speak for themselves.”
