My guests today are Dr Fitzroy and Dr’s Janice Maitland. Janice Maitland was born on the isle of Spice, Grenada and was a teacher for approximately 40 years , from elementary to university. She holds a Ph.D. in Education; and was Superintendent of Education in the Ontario Conference for six years, helping to guide the education processes in the 10 schools in Ontario. Dr. Janice Maitland is a certified Family Life Educator who enjoys making presentations and conducting workshops on family life. Sometimes she does it alone, and at other times teams up with her husband, Dr. Fitzroy Maitland. She has a passion for families and is well aware of the many dynamics impacting families in this 21st century. One of her hobbies is teaching children how to play the piano, with the hope that they, too, will develop a love for music and appreciate its value to them and others with whom they interact with. Pastor (Dr.) Fitzroy Maitland Fitzroy Maitland was also born in the isle of spice—Grenada. After a year and a half of teaching in his homeland, he enrolled in Theology at Caribbean Union College in Trinidad, and two years later, began to serve in Trinidad as a pastor-evangelist in the South Caribbean Conference in 1966. Pastor Maitland’s ministry has taken him throughout the Caribbean, from Guyana to Jamaica and also internationally to Europe and the USA. He was called to serve the Toronto East church in 1981, and has served in various capacities as a Pastor and Conference Director of the Ontario Conference, until his retirement in December 2017. As part of his academic career, Dr. Maitland holds a doctorate in Religious Education (Ed.D), specializing in Family Life and Spiritual Gifts, and was dean of the Faculty of Theology and Behavioral Sciences at the University of the Southern Caribbean (formerly CUC) in Trinidad, for 5 years. Along with his wife, he has conducted several couples’ retreats, family seminars and radio/TV talks. He retired from full time ministry after 51 years of service, and is now a part-time family counsellor, mentor, and coach to seminary doctoral students at Andrews University, Michigan. He is also President of the Grenada Toronto Community Network, (GTCN), one of the organizations supporting Grenadians in the diaspora and in the homeland. Pastor & Dr. Janice Maitland have been married for 52 year and are the proud parents of two adults children, Ronald and Karlene, and are grand parents to four beautiful grandchildren who are the pride and joy of their lives.
