The Let's Get Real Podcast: Point 9: Therefore Jesus is God
Manage episode 314518612 series 3087587
We are three quarters of the way through The Twelve Points That Show Christianity Is True. Here is where we are up to this point:
1. Truth about reality is knowable.
2. Opposites cannot both be true (The Law of Noncontradiction).
3. It is true the theistic God exists.
4. If God exists, then miracles are possible.
5. Miracles performed in connection with a truth claim are acts of God to confirm the truth of God through a messenger of God.
6. The New Testament is historically reliable.
7. As witnessed in the New Testament, Jesus claimed to be God.
8. Jesus' claim to divinity was proven by miracles, especially the Resurrection.
Over the last few weeks, we saw how the New Testament claimed that Jesus is God. Jesus also proved to be God via His resurrection. This week, we solidify the fact of Jesus' deity by discussing a doctrine that validates His being the Second Person of the Godhead. That doctrine is the Trinity.
Those who object to the Trinity need to understand that though the Bible does not give a prescription of the Trinity, it does give a description of God's disclosure as being triune. The doctrine of the Trinity states that there exists within on God three co-eternal and co-equal persons, the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. Muslims think this is polytheistic, and skeptics think this is a contradiction. But this is not a contradiction since God is said to be three in a different way than He is one.
Jesus did not empty Himself of His deity as heretics might think and write about. Instead He added humanity to His deity thus having both a divine and human nature. Jesus claimed to be Yahweh, the one true God, and He proved it by rising from the dead, doing miracles, and refuting His critics by claiming to be the I am (John 8:58).
