Medically known as cephalalgia, headaches represent one of the most common forms of pain experienced by humans. Cephalalgia comes from the Greek words kephalê (head) and algos (pain). Cephalalgia is defined as a painful sensation of varying intensity in the cranial vault, superior portion of the neck, and upper half of the face. Headaches are a frequent symptom, as evidenced by their yearly top 10 on lists of reasons for a neurological consult.
