Also known as The ‘Whiskey Horror’ of Christmas, it was during the Christmas season in 1919 when primarily men in Connecticut and Western MA started falling deathly ill. Soon, the hospitals and emergency rooms were overflowing with patients in pain. Many were pronounced dead on arrival. Doctors were stretched thin as they tended to those in the hospitals, while others went into the cities and towns, making house calls and trying to treat the patients who were suffering from delusions, vomiting and in some cases, paralyzation and blindness.
