Reflection on the 101st Anniversary of the Abolition of the Khilafah

Today is the 4th day of Ramadan, 1446 AH / March 3, 2025—a date that marks 101 years since the abolition of the Ottoman Khilafah by Mustafa Kemal in Ankara.

Last night, during Taraweeh, the Imam recited a powerful ayah from Surah Al-Imran (3:26):

“Say, O Allah, Master of the Kingdom! You give sovereignty to whom You will and take sovereignty from whom You will; You honor whom You will and humble whom You will. In Your hand is all good. Indeed, You are over all things competent.”

This ayah perfectly encapsulates the tragedy of our loss—but also our hope for the future.
