1. Channel your inner “neat freak.” When a buyer enters a home for a showing, one of the first things they’ll notice is how clean it is. Therefore, keeping your listing clean and tidy is a must. Even your laundry room and closets should look spotless before a buyer sets foot inside. You should also take care to declutter your kitchen and bathroom counters so that buyers have an accurate view of the available space.


Opening blinds to let in natural light, decorating with fresh-cut flowers, and adding other similar touches will help buyers feel like your house could be their future home.

2. Put yourself in the buyer’s shoes. As you prepare your home to sell, try to envision your home as it looks to someone without the same level of familiarity as you. What will someone looking at your property through fresh eyes see? It’s easy to grow so accustomed to small imperfections that you forget about them altogether, but buyers are sure to notice them. Minimizing overly personal decor, while still maintaining a sense of style, while simultaneously eliminating small, distracting flaws will be critical to your success.
3. Bring the outside in. Opening blinds to let in natural light, decorating with fresh-cut flowers, and adding other similar touches will help buyers feel like your house could be their future home.
