“Why do bad things happen to good people?” We’ve heard this question asked in different ways for years on end. Sometimes people ask this as a way to question the existence of God. It’s a legitimate question to ask, however. If God loves us, why does he let tragic things happen to His children? See, God created us in His own image, but He intentionally separated us from being able to understand things on His level. He even told Moses that merely a glimpse of God is enough to kill us. Exodus 33:20, “And he said, Thou canst not see my face: for there shall no man see me and live.” God even tried to protect us from the tree of knowledge, but we all know what happened there. So, we come back to the question, why do bad things happen to good people? Well, if we as mortal men can’t fully comprehend God, we definitely can’t comprehend His motivations. Everything God does has a reason behind it. I know that’s not something that someone who has just suffered a tragedy wants to hear, but what’s the common thread behind most all tragedies? They all bring us closer to God. And that’s what it’s all about in the first place, isn’t it? I know when a child dies or a baby is born with deformities it may seem that God doesn’t care, but God takes care of all that. It’s our job to get out of the way, draw nigh to Him & trust God.
