國明老師在戲劇舞臺上的第一個角色是一個「白癡」，學長姐稱贊他演得真像的時候，他的心情是複雜的，但也充滿了成就感。他開始透過戲劇創作，找到了與他人連結、與這個世界對話的方式。
後來，他和同樣熱愛戲劇的夥伴們共同創辦了「心向太陽劇坊」，從一開始以為弱勢群體發聲作爲其創作的核心關懷；到後來開展本土華文話劇文史研究，堅信「史料尚在民間」，因而從2019年就推動金絲帶「搶救百年馬華話劇史料運動」。
「心向太陽劇坊」源自於一場學生自主發起的舞臺劇，然而當舞臺上聚光燈熄滅之后，這場戲持續演了23年，至今并未散場，并且也將一步一脚印，在社會大衆的支持下往前，繼續編織專屬於這片土地的馬華話劇歷史。
