Heather Jenson is a mom of three with a passion for being active. It started back in high school when her parents encouraged her to find a sport she could put all that teenage energy into. She chose swimming and spent the next 10 years competing in the water.
It wasn’t until years later, after Heather became a mom, that running became such a huge part of her life. At first it was a way to stay active with her kids, but after the birth of her third child, it became a form of meditation and a way to find mental clarity as she battled postpartum depression. As she sought professional help for her depression, Heather turned to her love of fitness like never before and signed up for a new level of athleticism, the Ironman 70.3.
Heather had already become a veteran marathon racer, but this new goal helped give her the focus and drive she needed, along with the professional help she was seeking, to fight her way through the darkness.
While Heather has run into her fair share of hurdles on training days and race days, nothing quite compares to the accident she was in this past October. As she was driving on the freeway, headed to film one of her coaching sessions with NordicTrack for iFit, she suddenly encountered a scene that looked like it came straight from a movie. With giant construction beams flying across the freeway, Heather’s car was hit and thrown off the side of the road. Miraculously, no one died that day, but the event left Heather wondering if she’d ever race again.
Today on "Courtney, Beyond the Cake," Heather opens up about her journey with postpartum depression, how running helped her through the darkness, and how she’s fought her way to back to the finish line.
