Dr. Monica Taylor-Desir is a psychiatrist that has served American Indian Communities for the past fourteen years and passionately advocated for the mental health care of her patients. After completing her psychiatry residency and community psychiatry/public health fellowship at Emory University Dr. Taylor-Desir started her career as a National Health Service Corps Scholar directly hired by the Winslow Indian Health Care Center, Inc. in Winslow, AZ. Dr. Taylor-Desir then served the Salt River Pima-Maricopa Indian Community in Scottsdale, AZ and was instrumental in ensuring the intergovernmental agreement between tribal and state governments were fully enacted to provide access to mental health care for her patients. She has acted as the Chief Medical Officer and psychiatrist for the Elbowoods Memorial Health Center on the Mandan, Hidatsa, and Arikara Nation in North Dakota, and is currently a Senior Associate at Mayo Health Clinic. Building Resilience Building Health Program The Building Resilience, Building Health is psycho-educational intervention program for Native American youth, which seeks to implement primary, secondary, and tertiary prevention. The program is open to all members of an adolescent’s household and the input of all household members is valued. This program was developed for the Mandan, Hidatsa and Arikara Nation community. https://buildingresiliencebuildinghealth.org
