In this episode of Finding a Foothold, I discuss where to begin as you struggle to come to grips with the devastating news that your loved one has had a stroke. You are likely entering a new world full of unfamiliar medical jargon, different medical professionals, and so many moving parts.
It is easy to feel overwhelmed by all the information given to you, on top of the whirlwind of emotions caused by your concern about your loved one.
Take a deep breath. I'm here to help.
And just so you know, I have been in your shoes. During this episode, I will begin to share my personal story as both a caregiver to my mother, who had multiple strokes; And as an occupational therapist who has worked on rehab units and in home health, I will share insights on ways you can navigate the recovery process and share practical strategies that can help you support your loved one's care needs now and when they return home.
Key Points:

  • The importance of learning:
  • What is a stroke?
  • What type of stroke did your loved one have?
  • The critical role of hope and motivation during recovery.

Tune in to hear about how caregivers can stay informed, make the best decisions, and support their loved one's recovery journey.

Tune in for practical advice and heartfelt support, with more episodes to follow.
