Have you ever wondered why fanfiction authors had to write a disclaimer that the people/story/setting they were writing was not their own for the longest time? This story begins long before some of you were even born, back when vampires were new to the modern day zeitgeist and fanfiction was called speculative fiction (spec for short). Back when fanfiction authors didn't have much to worry about other than finding a new Usernet group to chat about your favorite new show, book, movie. But, in the shadows rose an enemy of fanfiction. One that did not care if you disclaimed that this world or characters were not yours, or that you were not making money off of your work. She was going to find a way for authors to stop writing fanfiction one cease and desist letter at a time. As always, send us your fic recommendations, or reach out if you are a fic author who would like to be interviewed in the future, at canonicallyincorrectpod@gmail.com.
