In the first interview of the 'Bootstrapped Unicorns' podcast hosted by Josh Pies, Rob Kurzreiter shared his unique journey from being a successful touring and studio musician, and performer in the Blue Man Group, to becoming a top-rated realtor in Orlando.
Rob's musical journey began with his first band where he voluntarily transitioned from bass player to drummer. This selfless act to benefit the band exhibited a versatility and team-first mindset that would set the tone for his continued success in each of his career transitions. He joked about his naivety as a musician, sharing an instance when he unknowingly traded roadie roles with notable musician Daniel Lenoir.
Josh Pies delved into Rob’s career as a realtor by unveiling how he successfully closed almost 100 transactions last year operating with a small team. Kurzreiter attributed his success to dedicating extensive time and focus to his vocation, and to the relationships and interpersonal skills integral to his work ethic. This principle was underpinned by his firm belief in always bringing value to the table "If you don’t have it – you have nothing to offer," he insists.
The conversation took an interesting turn as Rob explained the shift in his career from music to real estate, responding to Josh’s question of how he managed such a massive pivot. For Rob, it was perceivably the same because, for him, both industries were about building relationships, being sensitive to people's needs, providing value, and treating everyone as an integral part of the community. However, he does not understate the immense amount of dedicated work and resultant luck in his journey to success.
Rob's overall success in his varying endeavors underscores the importance of networking and personal branding, which he further emphasized during his talk. He explained the necessity of investing in building relationships and the power of working with like-minded individuals to propel success. Additionally, he pointed out that sometimes in order to succeed or survive, one's role may change, reiterating the importance not to get too attached to a title as it can be self-limiting.
Despite the diverse nature of his work, Rob emphasized the importance of patience, dedication, and keeping the end goal in sight. He acknowledged the daily grind and affirmed the need for an obsessive focus to stay on track despite setbacks. He highlighted the importance of perseverance, recounting the countless hours of hard work and the personal sacrifices he made along the way.
One of the recurring themes throughout the interview was Rob's appreciation of the role of others in his life. From his first band to his realty team, he believes that success is largely underpinned by others. He affirmed that having the right people around you, who are willing to share and learn, can be a key determinant of success.
Ultimately, Rob Kurzreiter's journey from being a touring musician to a realtor is marked by an undying commitment to his work, a love for the community he serves, and an inherent ability to adapt to changes. His success story provides a testament to the power of hard work, dedication, and the importance of relationships in achieving excellence in any domain of work.
