It was a decade of turbulence for Assam’s tea industry, which began in 1987 when the militant group ULFA turned its focus on what was then a flourishing trade. Kidnappings for ransom and imposition of levy led to an atmosphere of fear and frustration, all of which has been documented in the book titled ‘The Hot Brew’ that was first published in December 1997. In this episode of ‘Simply Nitin’, StratNews Global Editor-in-Chief Nitin A. Gokhale dwells on his book that captures what led to those tumultuous years and how ‘The Hot Brew’ was ready in less than a month.
