In my many years in the music industry, I've accumulated many stories, insight and knowledge about the business of music. Though I never really made a formal announcement about my "retirement" from the music biz, it has been painfully clear that no matter how I've tried to ween myself away, I always seem to find my way to be involved in some form or fashion. I still get request to manage artists or to put together a concert or festival. Mostly people call for advice and counsel related to their career. I have friends who are angered about how freely I give my knowledge away without a fee or some kind "quid pro quo". But that has never been my style. I always feel obligated to give a helping hand in any way I can to assist someone in pursuing their dreams. Being that I'm in my so-called "retirement" from the biz, I think I've found a way to stay connected to the two things I love...music and the business of music...by doing a podcast talking to people like myself. By that I mean people behind the scenes like Managers, Producers, Booking Agents, Venue Owners, Sound/Lighting Engineers, Public Relations Managers, Marketing Experts, Radio Programmers, Music Distributors...basically anyone that can give some insight into the business of music without it coming from me. It's my way of giving a peek into the world BEYOND THE ARTIST! Behind the scenes is where I've operated for decades. Everyone knows the names of the artist on the stage...but does anyone ever ask or even want to know how that person got there? The answer is usually no. I think it's time to shine the spotlight on the folks that really make this business of music work! A show about music wouldn't be complete without playing some good music. It's not a radio show that will just play the music...there will be discussions about the songs and how they relate to the guest I'm interviewing on each podcast episode. Entertaining people involves more than just the person behind the microphone. It begins and ends with many people in between. This podcast highlights the people behind the artists. My first guest, Willie Wood, has been the Road Manager for Regina Belle and Glenn Jones as well as a songwriter and performer himself. Let's take a journey with Willie...BEYOND THE ARTIST!…
