Born from a hometown conversation with co-host Brent Hinson, Martin Police Department Assistant Chief Phillip Fuqua joins Between the Lines to discuss community relations and recruiting.
The Martin PD still holds an annual Citizens’ Police Academy that was started in 1993. Fuqua lays out how the academy improves relationships between officers and citizens by providing a platform for encounters outside of a law enforcement event.
Facing the same difficulties in recruiting as other agencies, Fuqua also talks about the intentional efforts his department puts forth to set themselves apart as a welcoming and desirable place to work.
