John 18-19: The Crucifixion of Jesus (Matthew Altman)
Manage episode 432512861 series 3308094
This summer we have been doing into selected passages in the Gospel of John. Today we will be unpacking John 18-19 seeking to understand the events leading up to the crucifixion of Jesus. Sometimes its easy to think that the God of the Old Testament is focused on justice, that He's a God who is angry and wrathful toward sin, while the God of the New Testament seems to be focused on grace, a God who is overflowing with love and mercy. So which is it? We know that God is immutable, meaning he does not change and is the same yesterday, today, and forevermore, so why this apparent contradiction? How can God be both perfectly just and overflowing with grace? Today we will explore this tension and see its beautiful culmination in the crucifixion of Jesus our Messiah who is filled with grace and truth.
