Join us once again in the history hole. This time Mat and I talk about an event that not very many people outside North Cambridgeshire know about, inspired by my driving around the area this summer. The Littleport Riot of 1816 was one of a large number of food riots across the UK during the early 19th century. In this part we explore the background to the events and what happens when a group of farm labourers reach the end of their tether. It turns out they invent some pretty ingenious weapons systems. You can find out more about this wild few days yourself at Ely Museum where I first heard the story. https://www.elymuseum.org.uk/ Sources: Flatman, Christopher John (2020).
