The interviewer meets several candidates and believe it or not – work knowledge and skills are not the only deciding factor while selecting an employee. Organizations and hiring managers seek to recruit smart individuals who have rich acumen towards research. While answering the common interview question – “How did you hear about this job?” – you should proclaim confidence, interest, and research abilities. Wondering what does that mean? Read on!

· The first thing to consider while responding to this question is flaunting the research (read homework) you have done to get this job. Talk about the various platforms you went through while you were searching for a job and the ultimate source via which you applied for this job.

· Thereafter, talk about the company information you gathered to ensure you are well-versed with the skills and responsibilities this job entails. State the reasons that give you the confidence how this job can contribute positively to your professional journey. You are not appearing for the interview because that is the last opportunity you have (even if that is the case). Try to create a moment that transmits a feeling you have thought through about your skills and experience matching the requirements of the job profile.

· Talk about the aspects that drew you to this job and company. It is very easy to apply for a job from the countless job advertisement available on the web. A candidate must communicate their high level of interest for the job and organization. Remember, the interviewer needs to make sure you are not only a fit but the ‘best-fit’ among the qualified candidates who apply for this job vacancy.

Don’ts

· Never say that you are unsure or don’t remember the source only to communicate that you are unorganized.

· Avoid speaking out of turn and over the top things which will make you seem desperate for the job. There is a thin line of difference between desperation and interest.

· Never lie. Never make up stories. It is fine to say that you got to know about the job from a job posting or advertisement.
