It’s an industry worth billions of pounds, and it’s one that leads the way when it comes to technology and forward thinking - so why is the gaming industry so behind the times when it comes to apprenticeships?

According to a recent report by Into Games, there are only 35 active apprenticeships in the UK gaming sector - and more than half of those in the industry say they had no idea how an apprenticeship scheme could even work.

In this episode business journalist Georgie Frost speaks to Susi Bauer and Declan Cassidy from Into Games, a non-profit that supports people on their journey in developing the skills & confidence they need to thrive in the gaming sector.

Into Games is organising a National Strategy Group and is open for organisations to join and help create new standards or adjust existing ones. To join, email susi@intogames.org or apprenticeships@intogames.org. The group already has members from studios like Epic Games, nDreams, Sumo Group, Ubisoft and more, training providers like HOST Salford, NextGen Skills, ScreenSkills, The Game Assembly and EPAs in there, as well as institutions like UKIE, BAFTA, the DCMS, Apprenticeship Hubs (Hampshire), BFI and IfATE.
If you're interested in finding out more about careers in the gaming industry, you can find information at intogames.org/careers.

And don't forget to check out @national_careers_service or head to Amazing Apprenticeships or UCAS for up to date information on current apprenticeship vacancies. You can also find out more about how the HomeServe Foundation could help you find an apprenticeship.
