Canadian pianist, pedagogue and author Alan Fraser is known for his innovative and artistic approach to piano technique and his books like, amongst others, The Craft of Piano Playing and Skeletal Wisdom.
Fraser studied piano and also decided to study Feldenkrais; initially to improve his piano technique but the method proved to be endlessly fascinating, covering so much more. He continued to help both pianists as other musicians and also worked with, for instance, athletes and dancers. He has presented at numerous international music conferences and established the Alan Fraser Piano Institute in 2011 at venues in Europe and North America.
Alan now lives in Serbia where he is Professor of Piano and Feldenkrais Method at the Art Academy of the University of Novi Sad. He concertizes and gives master classes worldwide.
In this episode Alan speaks about the impact of the Feldenkrais method, explaining it as a neuro-motor re-education that has profound implications for human movement and learning. He gives examples of his sessions with musicians and reveals how Feldenkrais affects breathing and sound. But also how Feldenkrais can be effective with problems like RSI, distonia, apnea and emphysema.
Alan Fraser is coming to Holland for several masterclasses at the Feldenkrais Music festival at 31-5, 1-6, 2-6 2024 in Rosmalen!
Organizer of this festival is Marie Astrid Vermaas and you can find more info at her crowdfunding page: https://www.voordekunst.nl/projecten/17108-muziek-feldenkrais-festival or at the festival page: https://thepianotouch.nl/feldenkrais-festival/
