Much is made about the creative decisions in ads for the Big Game, but how does all that money, those requisite celebrity cameos, and everything else that goes into these multi-million dollar investments translate into Return on investment? The ISW focused on Syria. Over time they expanded their Russia program, recognizing Putin's intervention in Syria as part of his global strategy. ISW provides support to educate civilian leaders on military force usage. They also train and advise senior military commanders while fostering young national security talent. The podcast highlights the attempted coup by Progozhin, leader of the Wagner Group, and the group's uncertain future. The brutality associated with Wagner, such as disturbing videos from Syria and Ukraine, is discussed. Speculation arises on potential Russian defense and leadership changes due to the coup attempt. Former Combat Controller and author Dan Schilling shares stories of the bravery and dedication of America's Special Operations forces, highlighting the relatively unknown community of Airforce Combat Controllers. These individuals are among the most versatile in Special Ops and have a unique dual role as both lethal individuals on the battlefield and humanitarian responders in times of crisis. We discussed the story of Medal of Honor recipient John Chapman a Combat Controller who inserted with a small element of SEALs from DEVGRU into an enemy camp to retrieve SEAL Neil Roberts. Through a series of difficult circumstances, Chapman ended up alone on a mountaintop in Afghanistan, fighting for 40-plus minutes against two dozen enemy fighters. In this action, Chapman saved the lives of 23 Americans, and the entire battle was recorded by a CIA drone hovering above. The entire video is on youtube, narrated by Dan Schilling, and every American should watch it. I sat down with Rick Hogg, a Special Operations combat veteran who served 29 years in the US Army and operates a training company called "War Hogg Tactical." Rick spent time in the infantry before assessing and being selected for Army Special Forces. Rick would deploy into combat 13 times working in various roles, including handling K-9s. His final deployments were to counter ISIS terrorists in Iraq. Spending that much time in combat arms takes a mental and physical toll on a human being, and Rick advises current operators on dealing with some of these challenges. We discussed Master Sergeant Joe Andres, Rick's teammate, who was killed in action on December 24th, 2005, in Iraq, and once again, Rick gives incredible advice on how to deal with the loss of a loved one. GRP 176-It is better to be on the move than being still: A Conversation with Sandra Eira A Sami Native At War In Ukraine Sandra Eira, a Norweigan Sami native and volunteer of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, is my guest for this week's podcast. She worked as a fisherman in the Barents Sea for ten years which is among the most dangerous professions in the world, before serving on the Sami Parliament in northern Norway. During her four years in the Parliament, she studied for a career as a health professional. After Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine, she immediately traveled to Kyiv to join the fight. Upon arrival, her team was sent to Moshun to halt the Russian advance toward Kyiv. In the ensuing chaos, she was separated from her unit and believed them to be killed during the heavy fighting. This resulted in her being the only medic in a mass casualty situation. After successfully repelling the Russian advance, she reunited with her unit, and they traveled to the southern front. Her team consists of former American Special Operators giving them a wide range of skills and allowing them to rotate in and out of different battles. We discussed their roles, including time spent in Bakhmut, the difficulty of pausing your life to go to war, and much more. Tune in. He served as a Corpsman and a Sniper. During his final deployment in 2017 to Mosul, Iraq, Gallagher was the Platoon Chief. The objective during this deployment was to work side by side with the Iraqi military to retake the city of Mosul from ISIS. We walked through this deployment and what led to some of the SEALs claiming he was a war criminal. After spending time in a military prison and being mistreated by the Navy, he was acquitted of murder charges. Joining me for this week’s podcast is a retired Marine Special Operations Task Force Commander Fred Galvin, and Army veteran, gold star wife, and current spouse to a MARSOC Raider Destiny Draher. On January 1st, 2019 Gunnery Sgt. Joshua Negron, Gunnery Sgt. Daniel Draher and Chief Petty Officer Eric Gilmet were assaulted by a drunk former Green Beret working as a civilian contractor in Erbil, Iraq during a night out. One of the Marines threw a punch back knocking the contractor out. The entire incident is caught on camera. The Marines took the contractor with them back to base while Eric Gilmet who is a Special Operations Independent Duty Corpsman treated him. He ended up choking on his vomit and unfortunately died four days later. The commanding General of MARSOC has completely alienated these Marines and they are not getting a fair shot at justice. We discuss in full detail how the command isn’t concerned with finding out the truth and has already made up their minds about the case. Our three MARSOC Warriors need your support! Please contact your representatives and make them aware of this case. Unsure of what to say? Here is a template that you can use to email or when you call your representatives. Jeff served in the Canadian Army before going to selection for their Tier 1 Special Forces unit JTF2. Serving for over a decade as an Assaulter, and Sniper Jeff saw combat across the globe. We discussed the common ancestor of American and Canadian Special Operations, the "First Special Service Force," or "Devil's Brigade." The FSSF was a joint unit between the two countries, taking on some of the most dangerous missions during WW2. Canadian Snipers hold several of the world's longest kill shots ever recorded included a 3500-meter hit. We discussed the dynamics and culmination of years of cross-training with the British SAS and American Special ops that led to the skills Canadian long gunners now possess. Jeff now runs a company that puts civilians through a special forces selection type of experience and uses a method he calls "Post Traumatic Growth," or PTS. They utilize PTS to arm people with tools to get through challenging situations in life.
