Luke Griffith is Professor of Government and History at New Mexico Junior College where he specializes in U.S. history, Western Civilization, and the American government. We spoke to Luke about his research on the US government’s role in the origins and the demise of the Intermediate-Range Nuclear Forces Treaty of December 1987; how President Reagan’s success in securing the agreement was made possible by earlier work in the Carter Administration; and, what has been the state of nuclear arms control after the U.S. withdrew from the Treaty in 2019.
