History of North America

In 1642, a French nurse accompanied a French military officer and the founder of the city of Montreal, Paul de Chomedey de Maisonneuve (1612-76). Jeanne Mance (1606-73) established its first hospital, the Hôtel-Dieu de Montréal, in 1645.
