Manage episode 422218172 series 3560814
In this split episode, Rob first conversed with Four Peaks co-founder, Andy Ingram. Andy shared how the brewery started in 1994-95, the challenges they faced during tough economic times, and how they managed to thrive. Andy talked about the negotiations for the "Kilt Lifter" trademark, the mixed reactions from the community, and the importance of maintaining relationships with other brewers. Rob then asked Andy to discuss his experience at a 30-year-old brewery and compare and contrast the issues faced by today's newer breweries including distribution, packaging lease negotiations, and the importance of the public space--the brewpub. In the second half of the show, Rob spoke with Jeff Fowler of Lumberyard Brewing Co and Jim Roper from Four Peaks Brewing Co. Jim elaborated on the brewing relationship with Andy and Melissa Osborn. Jeff introduced his team. The brewers went on to explain their collaboration process and the challenges of brewing with different ingredients and equipment. They discuss the upcoming release of their collaborative beer, an Extra Pale Ale (XPA), and how they choose beers to brew based on consumer preferences and seasonal trends. They also touch on the importance of continuous improvement in brewing and the beers they are most proud of. Finally, they discuss the challenges of balancing work and personal life in the brewing industry. Last Call!
