Lyndon B. Johnson delivered his inaugural address on January 20th, 1965. The 60s were a watershed year for the United States, and LBJ – as well as his predecessor, JFK – were intimately involved. From the Civil Rights movement to the Vietnam War, from the assassination of monumental figures in American history, to the moon landings, it was a tumultuous time. Less than a year before his inaugural address, LBJ had signed the Civil Rights Act of 1964 into law. And less than a year after it, he signed the Voting Rights Act of 1965. The Social Security Amendments of 1965 created Medicare and Medicaid, all part of LBJs "Great Society" programs.

The cover art is a 1968 portrait of LBJ by Elizabeth Shoumatoff.
