Ma Kailiang is a PhD student at University of Paris-Sud, France. His current research interest focus on shareholder protection regimes in financial holding companies, internet finance regulation and reform of state-owned enterprises. In this talk, Catalin and Ma discuss the outcome and the implications of a Chinese case regarding discrimination of persons with HIV in accessing insurance services. Why do courts take a narrower interpretation of contracts than regulatory agencies and legislators? Can discrimination be tackled only by regulatory reform as result to societal pressure?
