"What Hurt You the Most"
Manage episode 317027866 series 3270803
James Baldwin, internationally acclaimed author, preacher and Civil Rights activists was asked by a journalist why he wrote his first book- "Go Tell it on the Mountain"; he replied, " In order for me to write anything else, I first had to deal with the thing that hurt me the most- my father/step-father". But what about his father that hurt him for years you ask? He recalled in his book that one day his step-father looked at him and told him that he was the ugliest child he had ever seen; not only was he hurt for himself, but he hurt also for his mother because she had the same-Frog's eyes. So, as I made some connections to Baldwin's life and his hurt to America, I ask you to consider what hurt you the most about America?
